Member Spotlight: Jordan Krahenbuhl
We are excited to highlight the impactful work of Jordan Krahenbuhl, the Executive Director of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) of Nevada and a former member of the IAPMO® Board of Directors. Recently, Jordan took his advocacy efforts to Capitol Hill, testifying before the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management.
Jordan addressed the crucial role of building codes in disaster mitigation, emphasizing the need for FEMA to incorporate all national model construction codes into its guidance documents. He argued that the current practice of referencing a single vendor’s product limits community resilience and can lead to monopolistic practices that ultimately harm taxpayers.
In his testimony, Jordan pointed out that FEMA's policies can unintentionally disrupt local and state code adoption processes, making it difficult for businesses in the plumbing and mechanical sectors to navigate these changes. He advocated for a more inclusive approach, urging FEMA to recognize various model codes to better support communities in enhancing their resilience against disasters.
Jordan’s commitment to building industry collaboration was evident as he joined forces with representatives from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the National Emergency Managers Association (NEMA). Together, they emphasized the importance of flexibility in adopting hazard-resistant codes tailored to specific community needs.
Through his advocacy, Jordan not only represents the interests of his members but also strives to create a more resilient and adaptable framework for communities facing natural disasters. His work exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and innovation needed in the construction industry today.
We commend Jordan for his dedication to improving building practices and fostering community resilience. His efforts continue to make a significant impact, and we look forward to seeing the positive changes that result from his advocacy.
